Why visit an orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a licensed and qualified specialist in the treatment of dental malocclusions (an abnormality in the way the teeth fit together).  An orthodontist is a dentist who has completed an additional two to three years of additional training in the diagnosis and treatment needed to correct tooth and jaw malalignment. Dr. Rosie received both her dental degree and her orthodontic degree from the University of Florida College of Dentistry.

Dr. Rosie is also a Board Certified Orthodontist.

An early orthodontic screening assures that your child’s smile will be healthy and look its best.  Just as your child’s first visit to the dentist should occur by age two, the best time for a visit to the orthodontist is by age seven.  At this time, incisors have erupted and problems can be detected such as crowding, habits, deep bites, open bites and some facial asymmetries.

Most of the time your child will only require monitoring of their facial growth and development of their teeth.  However, some children will require early orthodontic intervention to provide the best end results.  Harmful habits, such as thumb sucking and tongue thrusting, should also be treated early in order to avoid detrimental effects.

A special referral is not necessary and the initial exam is free.  If you wish to know when to start treatment for your child or for yourself, Dr. Rosie can determine the best plan of treatment to suit your or your child’s needs.
